European source: The nuclear deal with Iran cannot be achieved without Russia.
The European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday that the final text on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers was "basically ready and on the table" but a pause was needed in the talks due to "external factors".
"As coordinator, I and my team will continue to engage with all JCPOA participants and the United States to overcome the current situation and finalize the agreement," Borrell wrote on his Twitter account.
A European source declared that "the nuclear deal with Iran cannot be completed without Russia".
This comes as diplomats said that the parties trying to revive the Iranian nuclear deal were searching Wednesday for a quick solution to the demands made by Russia at the last minute that threaten to derail the negotiations, but the United States does not seem to want to communicate with Russia on this issue.
Our common will
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Friday that the temporary suspension of the Vienna nuclear talks may constitute an impetus for resolving any remaining problem and the final return to the agreement. "No external factor will affect our common will to move forward for a comprehensive agreement," he added on his Twitter account. The spokesman noted that the successful conclusion of the talks is "the main focus for all".
Fast nuclear deal
On Thursday, the senior Iranian security official, Ali Shamkhani, considered that the desire of the United States to reach a quick nuclear agreement indicates that it has no will to conclude a strong agreement.
"Iran's nuclear talks are getting more complicated every hour without the United States making a political decision," Shamkhani added in a tweet on his Twitter account.
The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council also said that the United States did not have the will to reach an agreement on reviving the nuclear deal during the Vienna talks, as it insisted on "unacceptable proposals."
For his part, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said today, Thursday, that Tehran will not retreat from any of its red lines in the Vienna talks. "The government is actively seeking to lift the sanctions in the Vienna talks," Raisi added in a tweet on Twitter.
In this context, the semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted an unnamed source as saying that negotiators in Vienna are still trying to address some major issues.
Reviving the nuclear deal
For its part, Nornews, a website affiliated with Iran's highest security authority, said that reviving the nuclear agreement could not restrict Tehran's pursuit of its missile and space programs. The site said in a tweet on Twitter that Iran is not ready to negotiate its defense capabilities and regional policies.
Western powers warned Russia, on Tuesday, against sabotaging an almost-complete agreement to bring the United States and Iran back into compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal. Iran's chief negotiator returned to Vienna on Wednesday after holding consultations in Tehran.
