Today, Monday, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry summoned its ambassador in Ethiopia for consultations, and summoned the Ethiopian ambassador in Khartoum to protest against the Ethiopian army’s execution of 7 soldiers and a Sudanese civilian.
A diplomatic source stated that "the Ethiopian ambassador promised to deliver the protest to his country's embassy," and confirmed that they had no information about the incident.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said that what the Ethiopian army had committed was a heinous crime that goes against the principles of international humanitarian law, stressing that Khartoum reserves "the full right to defend our lands and the dignity of our citizens."
In a statement, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan condemns in the strongest terms the heinous crime committed by the Ethiopian army, which violates the principles of international humanitarian law, by killing seven prisoners of Sudanese soldiers and a civilian citizen after they were kidnapped from inside Sudanese territory on June 22, 2022 AD, and taken into the territory. Ethiopian women, killing them and mutilating their bodies in public.”
While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns this inhumane behavior, it would like to remind that Sudan hosts more than two million Ethiopian citizens who enjoy decent treatment and share with the Sudanese people its resources and livelihood in generosity and tolerance.
In order to preserve the sovereignty of our country and the dignity of its citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated a formal complaint to the Security Council and the relevant international and regional organizations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would also like to remind that the Government of Sudan reserves the full right guaranteed by the Charter of the United Nations to defend its territory and human dignity. Sudan will immediately summon its ambassador to Ethiopia for consultations, and today the Ethiopian ambassador to Khartoum will be summoned to inform him of Sudan's condemnation of this inhumane behavior.
The Sudanese Sovereignty Council condemned the execution of seven soldiers and a civilian, considering what happened contrary to all norms and laws, and called on the Ethiopian government to hold the perpetrators accountable.
The move comes after the official spokesman for the Sudanese armed forces, Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, accused the Ethiopian army of executing seven Sudanese soldiers and a citizen who were prisoners of it, and then presenting the victims to their citizens.
The official statement issued by the Sudanese army said that the Ethiopian behavior is inconsistent with all international and humanitarian laws and norms.
The statement stressed that this treacherous position will not go unanswered, and this behavior will be responded to in what suits it.
