Last week, supply chain analyst Ross Young predicted that Apple would develop a new 14.1-inch iPad Pro with a Mini LED/ProMotion display, like the one found in the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
However, Young changed his mind now. He said, "The 14.1-inch tablet will not have a Mini LED or a screen with an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz.
There are also rumors that the iPad, which currently retails for $329 and features a 10.2-inch screen, might get a major upgrade with connectivity and newer specs.
Apple recently announced a new multitasking feature for iPadOS, called Stage Manager, which is rolling out later this year and takes advantage of the extra screen space.
Young also expects the 14.1-inch iPad to be launched in the first quarter of 2023. It may seem strange that Apple's biggest iPad won't be in the Pro class.
Apple's decision not to include a large 14.1-inch screen may be related to supply chain considerations. Given the delivery times of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, it appears that the company may struggle to keep up with the demand for the mini-tablet with a Mini LED display.
The company estimates that it could take more than two weeks to get the base model of the large iPad Pro. It also appears that some MacBook Pro models, which feature a 14.2-inch Mini LED display, are relatively hard to come by.
Rumors about the 14-inch Apple iPad continue
For Apple iPads, the availability of Mini LED panels probably won't be a concern for long. However, reports have said that the tablet may get an update later this year. The update includes a screen with a resolution of 2360 x 1640 pixels.
The screen of the current model comes with a resolution of 2160 x 1620 pixels. As a result it seems likely that the screen may increase slightly.
Information indicates that the updated iPad may join current iPad models in getting a USB-C connector instead of Lightning. It may also get 5G capabilities, and is said to also have an A14 chip.
The report does not mention whether the company may update the design of the tablet as well as its capabilities. But if the device gets a new screen and port, it may be surprising not to update the design.
The iPad Pro lineup is expected to get updates later this year, including the M2 chip that Apple announced at WWDC.
Last year, rumors suggested that the 11-inch iPad Pro might get a Mini LED. Both Ross Young and Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the smaller iPad Pro would not get the advanced display technology.
