China recorded 3,393 cases of coronavirus, Sunday, according to the National Health Commission, the highest daily number since February 2020.
Because of a rise in the number of infections across the country, the authorities closed schools in Shanghai and also imposed a quarantine in many northeastern cities, at a time when more than ten provinces in the country are working to contain local outbreaks of the virus.
And a partial closure was imposed in the city of Jilin in northeastern China, according to an official announced Sunday, due to the high number of Covid cases.
Zhang Yan, a health official in Jilin, said at a press conference that the outbreak showed that "the spread of the omicron mutant is hidden, highly contagious, rapid, and difficult to detect in the early stages".
