Egypt reveals details of the Arab initiative to end the Ukrainian crisis

Shoukry: We must stop escalation, not resort to military action, and immediately resort to peaceful solutions based on dialogue.

On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry revealed the details of the Arab initiative that was presented to end the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

He stressed that the ministerial contact group on the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which includes Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Algeria, Sudan, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, met on Monday in Russia to discuss the seriousness of the repercussions of the crisis on international peace and security, and its negative repercussions extending to various economic levels, including: That is global energy and food security.

Shoukry said, "We expressed concern about the extension of the current crisis, and called on all parties to the conflict to stop escalation and not resort to military action, and we also stressed the immediate resort to peaceful and diplomatic solutions based on dialogue."

He pointed out that the Arab side called for continuing the course of direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, and also affirmed its readiness to carry out mediation efforts and support the path of direct negotiation between the two sides with the aim of reaching an urgent cessation of the ongoing military operations and the start of discussing a number of confidence-building measures in a manner that ensures resolving this conflict in a manner Peaceful and acceptable to both parties.

We have also stressed the importance of coordination to preserve the security and safety of the Arab communities currently in the conflict zone and to facilitate the transit of those wishing to them to neighboring countries, and we also discussed ways to overcome the economic consequences of this crisis and ensure that it does not affect the peoples of the region and beyond, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said.

The foreign minister added that a committee will travel to Poland on Tuesday to meet with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, within the framework of completing Arab consultations and efforts to contain the crisis with the two parties to the conflict, in a way that leads to the return of stability to the region and the strengthening of international peace and security.

On Monday morning, the Egyptian Foreign Minister went to the Russian capital, Moscow, as part of a visit to the Arab Contact Group at the ministerial level, in implementation of the outcomes of the Arab League Council, to hold the necessary consultations and contacts with the concerned parties with the aim of finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
