Putin: The economic war against Russia will not succeed

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the economic war against Russia will not succeed, stressing that the Russian economy has withstood Western sanctions, which he described as "unprecedented."

And Putin added during his participation in the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, today, Friday, that his country will reach positive results despite the sanctions, stressing that the budget is experiencing a surplus.

"We got rid of the inflation wave after 3 months of Western sanctions," the Russian president continued, noting at the same time the possibility of reducing the interest rate in the Russian Central Bank to 7%.

Putin stated that the economic system is being subjected to blows, while food chains are deteriorating, pointing out that the West has begun to print money to overcome economic crises.

He said that the sharp rise in gas prices occurred before the military operation in Ukraine, vowing to send food to Africa and the Middle East.

Putin pointed out that the fertilizer deficit will lead to higher food prices, and Russia cannot be blamed, stressing that Moscow welcomes all talks on the world food crisis.

Putin also strongly defended his country's military operation in Ukraine.

"In the current situation, against the background of increased risks and threats, Russia's decision to launch a special military operation was a coercive one," Putin said. "It was a very difficult decision to make, but it was mandatory and necessary. It was a decision by a sovereign country that has an unconditional right under the Charter of the United Nations to defend its security," he added.

Putin predicted Russia's success in Ukraine after more than 16 weeks of fighting.

"All the goals of the special military operation will certainly be achieved. This is inevitable with the courage and heroism of our warriors, the cohesion of Russian society whose support gives strength and confidence to the Russian army and navy, and a deep understanding of the historical truth and justice of our cause," he said.

Putin said Russia would "accept any options" made by the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine regarding their future.
