Solana announces a web 3-focused smartphone

Public blockchain company Solana has announced its mobile phone called Saga made in collaboration with Osom. The phone, formerly known as the Osom OV1, built by a team consisting of former Essential engineers and designers, is being renamed and customized, all in the name of Crypto.

The Saga is being promoted as a flagship-level Android smartphone that offers a unique set of features integrated with Solana's blockchain. As you might expect with this kind of integration, the phone can easily and securely transact, while also being able to manage digital assets.

The price of the phone is 1000 US dollars. Pre-orders are now available. A $100 deposit is required. Solana says it ships the Saga in the first quarter of 2023.

The phone has a 6.67-inch OLED screen, a 120Hz refresh rate, 512GB of storage, and 12GB of RAM.

It is powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip and is equipped with a 50MP primary camera, as well as a 12MP wide camera.

But regardless of what hardware specs are important to most geeks, the goal of Saga is to improve the relationship between crypto and mobile devices, says Solana CEO Anatoly Yakovenko.

This device is for people in the world of cryptocurrency wallets, Web 3 and NFT. It comes with the unique feature of supporting decentralized applications that are based on the Solana blockchain.

NFT marketplace Magic Eden, maker of the Solana Phantom wallet and cryptocurrency platform Orca have pledged to support the new software effort for the Saga Phone.

Solana wants to improve the relationship between mobile phone and encryption

Osom has confirmed that the OV1 and Saga are now the same, which means that this device is the company's primary focus. Founder and CEO Jason Keats said: Osom is excited to partner with Solana to build the Saga. The world needs new hardware companies to support the future of Web3.

The blockchain company has also introduced a framework for Android that allows developers to create mobile experiences for wallets and apps called Solana Mobile Stack.

Solana Mobile Stack is an open, decentralized app store that runs through Saga. The company envisions the huge proliferation of native crypto applications, digital services, and digital goods that may become possible through Solana Mobile Stack.

Solana Mobile Stack is also available for other Android device makers. The blockchain company claims that developers are getting early access to the Saga.

The announcement comes at a difficult time for the cryptocurrency industry, which has seen a significant drop in prices.

Yakovenko realizes that the device does not have the most attractiveness. But he sees it may reach more specialized crypto users.

“We are targeting people who understand what it means to secure a key that proves ownership of the funds in a crypto wallet,” he said.
